Short description
The traditional houses of Porto from the 19th century usually hide their architectural, ornamental and landscape richness. This rehabilitation project reveals that richness, bringing it into contemporary times and making it more public. This Guest House contains a gastrobar, “The Gardener”, open to the city, and nine rooms on the upper floors. In the design process, notable elements of the building were recovered – skylight, ceilings and walls in stucco; floors and central staircase in wood – and the refinement of new materials was intentionally added – accountants and elevator in cast-iron, restaurant ceiling and interior doors in dark aluminum, contemporary tiles in several restrooms. All the chosen colors and floral motifs seek to integrate the building in its urban and natural milieu.
