The Once collection is the collective name for a chair and a barstool in various executions. Here we are presenting the black and the Corten steel version with cow hide upholstery. Design should be functional. It is limited by laws of nature. The challenge was to create an unique (bar)stool by exploring materials and production methods. A chair needs to be strong, stable, light and comfortable. A good design combines all this with a unique look. A traditional chair has at least 3 contact points with the floor, 1 leg, a comfortable seat and an easy backrest. Our Once has exactly this. Same as others, but with an original look. The stools are made of 2 forms of laser-cut metal that are welded together to form a strong leg. The position of the contact points with the floor are well determent to avoid flipping. It is important that the angle between the 2 back supports is precisely 90°. Not only for stability, but also for the exact position of the back cushions. You will also see that there are no weak corners but that direction change is made through rounded angles. All cushions have the same shape; like a bicycle seat. The upholstered foam for the back is softer than the foam for the buttocks. The total thickness is about 5cm. The upholstering material here is cowhide that has been sewn. The back cushions are hinged to the structure so they can adapt to the back of the seated person. This means that the backrests adapt to the back and make resting extra comfortable.
