“Si può fare” Vegetable gardens

Salvatore Spataro Architetto

Project description

"Si può Fare" Vegetable gardens The work concerns the design of an area of one hectare within the "Si puo fare" Agricultural Social Cooperative, in Noto (SR), Sicily, Italy. The aim was to frame the area by designing various “synergical” vegetables gardens with different crops (courgettes, aubergines, lettuce, etc..) and at the same time to create alternative spaces for recreational and educational use in the area. There are shaded areas with iron gazebos, wooden seats, a space dedicated to teaching for children, and a small natural amphitheater made with straw bales. The materials used are straw, pebbles, corten iron and wood. The area was divided into two large spaces at different heights connected by a staircase covered with white pebbles. The shapes of the gardens are parallelograms that interact with each other creating different geometries. Synergistic agriculture is a new type of natural and organic agriculture, based on the synergy between cultivated plants. It is based on the assumption that in nature everything has always worked perfectly without the presence of man.
