  • A cinema is like a dimension door to the virtual world. How to blur the boundary between reality and virtual is the key point to consider in the design of cinema space.
Oft Interiors, a Hong Kong design firm, specializes in combining business thinking and visual culture, and is dedicated to creating "scene-based consumption experiences" for commercial spaces.
The theme of the design is "Microcosm in the Magnifying Glass". Through imagining about the three-dimensional city in two dimensions, the designers deconstructs the pixels of different sizes and reshapes the space inside the screen in a new scale.
They believe that we live in a world where electronic screens are everywhere, and if this world is made up of electronic screens, then we are the tiny pixels that make up this world. Because each individual is different, the world becomes more tridimensional and vivid.
In this magnified microscopic world, the once flat pixel grid has become a three-dimensional pixel column, where we could only observe the surface in the past, but now we can see the whole picture.
In addition to creating a pixel world with immersive experience, the designers also re-planned the layout in terms of movement according to the business logic of the cinema, changing the original entrance of street to enter from the mall to realize the mutual diversion between the mall and the cinema; at the same time, the main entrance and ticketing area were moved to the second floor, and the first floor was used as the sales area, which is an important profit structure of the cinema.
Through this project, the designers hopes to bring a different consumer experience to young audiences, attracting more consumer groups from different circles while allowing consumers to explore the relationship between the city and individuals, virtual and real, and even flat and three dimensions from an unfamiliar perspective.

A cinema is like a dimension door to the virtual world. How to blur the boundary between reality and virtual is the key point to consider in the design of cinema space. Oft Interiors, a Hong Kong design firm, specializes in combining business thinking and visual culture, and is dedicated to creating "scene-based consumption experiences" for commercial spaces. Because each individual is different, the world becomes more tridimensional and vivid.
