M1DTW Architects
Short description
M1DTW Architects is an architecture practice and creative studio rooted in Detroit with projects across North America. Since 2000, the studio has focused on a wide range of design applications, expanding the boundaries of architectural practice with a holistic, cross-disciplinary approach. Founded and led by polymath designer Christian Unverzagt, the studio customizes production at all scales—from the fabrication and construction of buildings and interiors to furniture design, graphic messaging and book production.
Informed by this graphic sensibility and interplay of disciplines, M1DTW engages a hands-on process that has attracted clients across industries. Their projects thoughtfully integrate architectural elements to occasion social interaction and discovery, and create engaging work environments. Containing over one hundred commissioned works, the studio’s wide-ranging portfolio includes retail and commercial spaces, adaptive reuse projects, concept spaces, renovations of historic residences and interior design with custom furniture.
M1DTW's clients range from emerging entrepreneurs to established cultural and educational institutions such as Floyd, Bloomscape, Mills Pharmacy, 6 Salon, Samsung, Cranbrook Art Museum and University of Michigan Museum of Art. The numerous awards M1DTW has received include Honor Awards from AIA Michigan, AIA Detroit, Design Core Detroit, a NAHA for Best Salon Design in North America, and a 50 Books’ award from the AIGA for one of the best-designed books of the year.
