Fluid and form
ACG Design International
Short description
Using "flow line" as the central designing concept, recreating the scene of the rosy clouds, natural movements, and effulgence from Huangshan, China. With lights and shadows, white painted dots embellishing the area, a self-eased outline of strolling in snowy nights seeking treasure is delivered. In the space, the designer adopts the bending of corners, smoothness of wood arcs, and selection of colors to blend the majestic of the sea of clouds and the elegance of walking in the snow; using symbolic methods to leave viewers with imaginations, corresponding the charm and essences of Oriental landscape paintings. The property is a single flat of 80 square meters, with large lighting on the first-floor front and back surrounded by nature. The case's design concept was based on two Eastern imageries, "Huangshan's sea of clouds" and "Japanese snow scenes". With "fluid" linear as the main design, it combines the abstracted symbolic brushwork in Oriental landscape paintings. The imagination is left blank for users to extend while resting in the space. The designer created shapes with natural solid wood, applicating smooth curved lines and large-scale collages on the ceiling. The large-scale of the top with a sense of line interprets the flowing movements of floating clouds. The designer used white paint to create the bottom of the facade to outline the image of people's wet shoes after walking on snowy nights. Also, the storage cabinets were made double-sided and geometrically, combining light and shadow effects with "flow lines", which abstractly completed reflections of stones in landscapes. The ceiling has movements like floating clouds; the white painting represented the soft, deep snow. The two images have created a poem-like design of the Tang Dynasty's landscape in a simple and modern building.
