At the beginning of the design process, CLOU aims to create a place of meeting and gathering with fresh personality, a place to lead visitors’ living concepts and emotional experiences, where people can relax and have their curiosity satisfied with a ground-breaking shopping experience.
The project is located in Hohhot district of Inner Mongolia, the initial challenge of the design was to turn a dull and undeveloped space into a hub that is lively, environmental friendly and full of energy.
Inner Mongolia has the beauty of infinite green lands but also holds the dramatically changing climate throughout the year. The drastic contrast is what provided the inspiration on the design, which is to create a green shopping mall in the northern area of China.CLOU took the inspiration of the sky garden of Babylon, incorporated the vertical gardening strategy, placing indoor gardens vertically and adjacently on each level, which resulted in a vertical constantly changing and altering public interactive space. The ten thousand square meter natural space consists of stream landscape, Japanese rock garden, sky garden and Amazon rain forest landscape from floor one to six. These natural gardening blend into the interior architectural space, becoming an air filter for the extreme climate.
CLOU utilizes multiple ground planes strategy while applying interior planting design. B1 with trendy and fresh themes serves as the first “ground plane” directly connected to the subway station. The first to third and fourth to sixth floors form a forest theme with a sense of integrity while acting as the second and third “ground plane”. The design layout makes every floor attractive and increases the passenger flow.
Located on the fourth floor of the square atrium, the public sport space becomes one of the highlight spaces of the project. CLOU focuses on utilizing the structural beauty of the original building itself and opening up the ceiling to expose the building structure. The perfect combination of the industrial style and minimalism makes the sport space unique and full of personality.
