Bonduelle’s Station B
Lemay
Short description
Bonduelle’s head office in Brossard —dubbed Station B—reflects the identity of a company anchored in plant life while supporting the social ecosystem of its users with a space filled with light, greenery, and community.
Guided by the metaphor of a tree’s interconnected systems, this multifunctional workplace finds its roots in a ground floor cafeteria, a natural gathering place humming with activity while providing nourishment for both the body and the mind. Stretching up through the trunk of a broad staircase topped with growing vegetation, the office branches out into private and group work areas that line windowed peripheries, recalling greenhouses via glass partitions and serving to fill the space with sunlight.
This variety of areas encourages health throughout a given workday by creating opportunities for social interactions and active movement through its layout, while also promoting wellness through biophilic and ambient elements; these range from natural materials like wood for a warm atmosphere and an optimized ventilation system flowing with fresh air to greenery, curated lighting and furniture, and even carpets which conjure bird’s-eye views of fields.
Developed through a combination of participatory design and analyses with employees, Station B demonstrates how a carefully thought-out and human-centered workplace design strategy can benefit a space’s users in immeasurably beneficial ways. By taking a responsive approach to current shifting workplace trends and incorporating designs centered on users’ needs, a variety of working styles is supported through its collection of individual and collaborative opportunities for work. The result is a project that aims to break down siloes and encourage collaboration with an inclusive work environment, enhancing the user experience with positive approaches to productivity, engagement and stimulation.
