Arlandria-Chirilagua is a 475-units, 100% affordable development in Alexandria, VA, located in a diverse community with a strong Latin American heritage. MOYA’s Interior Design team designed the buildings’ amenities and commercial spaces. Situated on the Northeastern edge of Alexandria, Arlandria is an ever-evolving community that has grown thanks to its privileged location. It has become one of Alexandria’s most vibrant areas thanks to its diversity and its strong and active community. Arlandria has long been home to a large diaspora of Salvadoreans who baptized the neighborhood with its unofficial name: Chirilagua. Arlandria’s Identity lies in the strength of a community that has historically advocated for development, equity, and opportunity. The property includes 38,000 SF of commercial space and a two-level underground parking garage near the intersection of West Glebe Rd and Mt. Vernon Ave. All 475 units are affordable at 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). MOYA’s interior design team honors Arlandria-Chirilagua’s diversity and history through a Patio Central (a Central Patio) reminiscent of traditional Latin American buildings. The Patio serves as a living connection between the two residential buildings and fosters the strong community values of Arlandria-Chirilagua. MOYA’s Visual Design team also worked on the building’s branding, inspired by the Patio Central and the rich connections of Arlandria-Chirilagua as a thriving community. Arlandria’s diversity is reflected in its murals, inspired by the Latin American Muralist, that grace the walls and represent the history and struggle of the Salvadorean, Ethiopian and many more ethnicities who have contributed to the growth and development of this neighborhood. Since 2003, Arlandria’s live forces have pushed into making the neighborhood a bustling, vibrant, and resilient area, taking advantage of its position as the perfect gateway between DC and Alexandria.
